I Got ‘Em

I have always felt the importance of training youth to discover ways to give back to the community. This year at our iconic Christmas kettles, The Salvation Army in Whitby had some exceptional young people Volunteering and representing.

They’ve learned to…

Make a positive difference to people’s’ lives.
Improve self esteem, confidence and wellbeing.
Gain invaluable volunteer experience.
Develop new skills and meet new people
Use existing skills and knowledge to benefit the local community.

These youth rang the bells, wished countless people a Merry Christmas and said thank you for each donation. They dressed with festive hats and wore ugly Christmas sweaters and represented so very well. We are so very proud of them.

As Ken signed off on one young persons hours, he exclaimed , “I got ’em”!

Collectively these young people have completed 460 hours standing by the kettles and giving back to the community.

You read that right – 460 hours…absolutely amazing. We celebrate their steadfastness in staying with their commitments and completing their hours.

The Bible reminds us in 1 Timothy … “Let no one look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in your speech, conduct, love, faithfulness, and purity.”

May the youth in our community continue to learn the gift of volunteering and in so doing become better community people in years to come.
