Food bank

The Salvation Army Food Bank exists to provide Food Security within the town of Whitby and Brooklin.
Rows of reusable bags placed on tables inside a room, each filled with groceries such as boxed pasta, cereal, canned goods, and snacks, prepared and organized for food bank distribution.

What we offer

The Food Bank is available to anyone living within these towns who is experiencing a food shortage.

Food Bank visitors are provided with a 3-4 day supply of food, which includes non-perishable food and fresh food when available. Hygiene, Cleaning and infant supplies can also be provided when available.

In addition to providing food our visitors can be referred to Community and Family Services programs and community resources as necessary. If needed, Food Bank visitors are provided with spiritual counsel whenever possible.

Location and hours of operation

The Food Bank is located at The Salvation Army – 710 McQuay Blvd. in Whitby. Main Door Entrance.  

Open on Monday and Wednesday only from 9:00 am-11:00 am and 12:30 pm – 3:00 pm.

First time visitors will need

  1. Identification for everyone in your household.
  2. Proof of current address. (Must be a resident of Whitby)
  3. Proof of rent and income may be required.
  4. Grocery Bags

How can you help?

Consider hosting a “Food Drive” in your circles. 

The Food Bank is always in need of the following items:

  • Canned potatoes
  • Small, Jams
  • Small, canned Fruit 
  • Fruit Cups
  • Kid Friendly Cereal (small boxes)
  • Cereal 
  • Litre of juice
  • Small bottles Cooking Oil
  • Small jars Instant Coffee
  • Small pkgs of sugar
  • Small pkgs of teabags
  • Small bags of Sugar
  • Small bags Flour
  • Small Pancake Syrup
  • Jell-O
  • Mixed Beans (chick peas, kidney)
  • Small bags Rice
  • Sidekicks
  • Pasta Sauce
  • Children’s snacks
  • Assorted canned meat (Tuna, Ham, Chicken, Turkey)

Food Bank Donations can be made at the North Entrance of 710 McQuay Blvd in Whitby between 9:00am and 2:00pm Monday to Friday. Ring the Door Bell and someone will assist you.
