CARING IS SHARING

“Its like we had 3000 new friends overnight to assist The Salvation Army in helping the vulnerable in the community”, says  Major Donette Percy, Community Ministries Officer/Pastor.

Major Percy goes on to say, “The Salvation Army has been partnering with the Whitby Caremongers since it’s inception.

This past week was the second food drive organized by Whitby Caremongers . It was a Porch to Porch Drop off organized in teams and orchestrated so very well. Families were engaged with flyer distribution, flyer making, picking up foods, checking best before date, organizing according to like and then dropping off”

The Whitby Caremongers have assisted The Salvation Army in the delivering of food hampers to the vulnerable in the community and  The Salvation Army has been supplying food and hygiene products for these deliveries.

Major Percy states, “We could not have provided this service without their support and for that we are grateful.  It means no one should  have to go hungry or without”

Whitby Caremongers is a  grassroots community organized to ensure vulnerable community members, and anyone who needs them, have access to necessities. It is also meant to assist with redistribution of resources in the event that stockpiling prevents people from accessing specific goods. N.L.  – “Those of us who were at the The Salvation Army at 710 Mcquay Blvd  this morning, witnessed the end result in the mountain(s) of food being dropped by individuals and families alike, and it was humbling to see all those people coming together. If you didn’t make it first thing this morning, you might have missed how inspiring this was, but THIS VIDEO gives us a great view. It made us all positively misty!”

Major Donette Percy said, “Yes, after 32 years of ministry throughout Canada I have never seen anything like it.   People, families, engaged together to help keep food on peoples tables during this time. I too have been positively misty.”

It was absolutely remarkable to see the social distancing line stretching way back engaging as a community. From the youngest of babies to people 90 plus, pulled together to feed people right here in Whitby. We connect, we create, we nourish, we provide hope and give people purpose in uncertainty.”

“You are making a difference in people’s lives and I cannot think of too many things more special than that.”…said one Caremonger

“It is truly beautiful thing in the neighbourhood” says Major Donette Percy, “for which we are beyond blessed”.

These donations are being distributed and shared with all the food banks in Whitby that help serve the vulnerable.
